Michael Page gets up to speed before his CT 525-engine victory.
What won the race: Leading every lap, polesitter Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., picked up a Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series victory Friday at Boyd’s Speedway. Page pulled away from Jake Knowles following a late caution and won by 1.833 seconds. The victory was worth $3,000. Knowles finished second ahead of series points leader Ronnie Johnson.
Quotable: “With that long of a run under green, you just never know if your tires are going to fire back up after a caution,” winner Michael Page said. “I didn’t know how big of a lead I had, but I knew Ronnie Johnson was in second and I had better be smart, be patient, and not give up too much in lapped traffic because one wrong move and he would have been right there.”
Key notes: Page led Ronnie Johnson by a half-lap when a caution waved on the final circuit, setting up a green-white-checkered finish. … Jake Knowles passed Johnson on the final restart to take the runner-up spot. … Knowles advanced from fourth to second over the final six laps. … Six drivers completed all 51 laps. … The race was slowed by two cautions. … The victory was Page's first career Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series victory. ... The race was originally scheduled for Monday, but moved up two days to kick off the tour’s weekend tripleheader that also includes Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., Saturday and Rome (Ga.) Speedway on Sunday.
On the move: Jody Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., started 12th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Page’s Stinger Race Car is sponsored by Baird Transport, Elite Concrete, Baird Towing and T&T Trucking.
Points chase: Entering the event, Ronnie Johnson (388) of Chattanooga, Tenn., led Jake Knowles (370), Cruz Skinner (350), Landon Bagby (342), and Joseph Brown (340).
