What won the race: Second-starting Virgil Randall of Rapid City, S.D., grabbed the lead on the opening circuit and led every lap at El Paso County Raceway to pick up his first career High Plains Late Model Series victory Friday. Randall outran third-starting Dakota Berry and polesitter Scott Rhoades in earning $1,000.
Key notes: Randall became the fourth different winner in seven events this season. … Mike Jensen of Commerce City, Colo., scratched from the main event. … El Paso County opened a three-race weekend for the High Plains tour, that includes events at I-76 Speedway in Ft. Morgan, Colo., on Saturday and Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo., on Sunday. … The second-year series returns to El Paso County on Oct. 20-21 for two separate shows to close out the season.
On the move: Tim Kiefer of Platteville, Colo., started 13th and finished eighth.
