What won the race: A lap-29 mistake nearly cost him a victory, but Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas, Calif., won from the third starting spot for his 10th career West Coast Shootout win. Steve Drake briefly went ahead but Hogge regained the point on the last of 30 laps.
Quotable: "I have to thank my lucky stars," Hogge told The Record. "I was afraid someone would pass me while I was stuck so I had to keep my nose to the grind. I never blinked on the last lap trying to make up for my mistake."
Key notes: Hogge also won the night's modified feature and set fast time in both divisions. ... The series had been idle since a May 24-25 doubleheader at Kings, when Ricky Thornton Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz., swept victories. ... Only a Nov. 7-8 doubleheader at Canyon Speedway in Peoria, Ariz., remains on the schedule.
Winner's sponsors: Hogge’s Victory Circle Chassis is sponsored by Keyser Mfg. and Steinwand.
Points chase: Clay Daly entered the race with a two-point lead on Steve Drake.
