What won the race: California transplant Dylan Thornton took the lead from Ricky Weeks and went on to win Saturday’s Blue Ridge Outlaws Late Model Series feature at Harris Speedway. The 16-year-old Thornton, of Mooresville, N.C., earned $1,200 for winning the Clyde Dedmon Memorial, his first-ever Late Model triumph.
Quotable: “That caution with two (laps) to go, I don’t know, we had a mix up on the restart and I ended up starting on the outside and I jumped the cushion over there a little bit. We had another restart and I got my spot back,” said winner Dylan Thornton. “I don’t know what happened with Ricky (Weeks). He just slowed and I figured his was broke and I didn’t lift … and here we are.”
Key notes: Thornton collected a $250 bounty on Weeks, who had won three straight series races at Harris Speedway and 10 of the tour’s 21 races entering the event. … There are seven series races remaining.
Winner's sponsors: Dylan Thornton’s winning No. 38 is sponsored by Salty’s BBQ and Catering, CMI Motorsports, Legacy Construction, Perry's Electric and K1 Race Gear.
Points chase: Entering the event, David Minton (519) led Ricky Weeks (433) and Bryson Harper (384).
