Brandon Overton heads to a $10,000 victory at Screven.
What won the race: Pulling away from runner-up Casey Roberts, polesitter Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., led all 60 laps to win Screven Motor Speedway’s Southern All Star-sanctioned Rebel Yell on Saturday. Overton earned $10,000 for his third career SAS victory. Chris Ferguson joined Overton and Roberts to complete the podium.
Quotable: "I adjusted my car for that heat race, and it was definitely the wrong thing to do. My car was way better early on in the night than it was in that feature," winner Brandon Overton said. "But I got lucky hanging on. I saw Casey (Roberts) down there a couple of times."
Key notes: Overton finished 2.254 seconds ahead of Roberts. … Eight cars completed all 60 laps. … Overton’s last SAS win was May 6, 2017 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala. … Screven’s 19th annual Rebel Yell was originally a Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series race, but was rained out on July 21 and rescheduled as a Southern All Stars event. … Screven owner James Griffin bumped the SAS purse from $7,500-to-win to $10,000-to-win following this weekend’s World 100 rainout at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway in hopes of attracting more competitors. … Overton, along with Chris Ferguson and Shanon Buckingham made the 725-mile haul from Eldora. … Fast qualifier Brent Dixon finished fifth. … Series leader Jay Scott of Fayetteville, Tenn., finished 14th, two laps down. … Virginia invader Kyle Hardy finished 22nd after completing only 31 laps. … Roberts won Friday at Oglethorpe Speedway Park near Savannah, Ga., his first victory with Blount Motorsports.
On the move: Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., started 14th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Overton's Billy Franklin-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by BCI Asphalt, R.W. Powell Construction, FK Rod Ends, Franklin Fence Company, Franklin Enterprises, Textron, Bozard Ford & Lincoln, Big A's and Big Dog Tree & Stump.
Points chase: After Screven, Jay Scott (1,082) of Fayetteville, Tenn., leads Ray McElhiney (894) and Mark Dodson (874).
