What won the race: Semi-retired racer Jesse Sobbing of Malvern, Iowa, drove a Rick Honeycutt-owned car to victory in Sunday's Nebraska Cup at Eagle Raceway. The fourth-starting Sobbing, who led all but the first lap, earned $1,200 in the Malvern Bank Super Late Model Series event.
Key notes: Sobbing, a long-time modified standout who announced his retirement last season, took the checkers 1.293 seconds ahead of John Anderson. ... He drove as a teammate to regular H&H Racing driver Matt Buller, who finished ninth. ... Polesitter Corey Zeitner, who led the first lap, finished third. ... Sobbing won his fourth series event; his previous three came among the first eight races last season. ... Sobbing won the Deery Brothers Summer Series title last season and finished fifth in Malvern tour points after leading the series early in the '17 season. ... Sobbing's previous Late Model start came in last season's Malvern finale. ... Eighteen starters completed 25 laps. ... The Malvern Bank Series made its fourth visit to Eagle Raceway as Late Models make a rare appearance at the sprint-car stronghold not far from the Malvern Bank tour's de facto home track, I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. … Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., had won all three of the tour’s previous visits (’13,’14, ’17) to Eagle.
On the move: Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., started 12th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Sobbing's H&H Racing Swartz Race Car is sponsored by I-80 Farms, Perfect Circle Irrigation and S&S Septic Plumbing.
