Kyle Hardy earned $4,000 Friday at Thunder Mountain.
What won the race: Passing race-long leader Chub Frank just past the halfway mark, Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., drove to a $4,000 victory in Thunder Mountain Speedway’s Fall ThunderFest opener on Friday. Hardy finished 2.462 seconds in front of runner up Boom Briggs, while polesitter Charles Powell Jr. finished third.
Key notes: Ten of the 25 starters finished the race. … Fast qualifier Jared Miley’s night ended on lap six when he clipped a spinning Walker Arthur and rolled over on his lid. … Chub Frank led Kyle Hardy and Boom Briggs when the caution waved on lap 16. Hardy was able to get by for the lead just after the restart. … Frank was still running second when he slid high on lap 23 and got hooked together with Matt Lux, ending Frank’s night. … Three-time Thunder Mountain winner Michael Lake finished 16th after completing only 15 circuits. … A number of drivers were eliminated on a lap-six melee on the backstretch that resulted in a red flag. The race was 27-laps in honor of sprint car driver Greg Hodnett who was killed in a racing accident in York Haven, Penn., on Sept. 20. … Action continues Saturday at Thunder Mountain with the $7,000-to-win Stephanie Eckl Memorial.
