What won the race: Continuing his prowess at Greenville Speedway, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, rallied from 14th to win Friday’s 30-lap Gumbo Nationals opener. The 2016 Gumbo Nationals winner finished 2.24 seconds head of second-starting Brian Rickman to earn $4,000. Polesitter B.J. Robinson finished third.
Key notes: Tyler Erb won his third consecutive race after sweeping World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model features at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio, last weekend. … Along with his 2016 Gumbo Nationals win, Erb finished second in 2017 and fourth in ’14. … Eric Cooley of Fulton, Miss., rallied from 20th to finish fifth. … 17th-starting Dane Dacus of Lakeland, Tenn., finished fourth after winning a consolation race. … 2014-’15 Gumbo Nationals winner Timothy Culp of Prattsville, Ark., finished ninth after starting 16th. … North Carolina native Kyle Strickler, a modified standout, drove a Double L Motorsports-backed Longhorn for Lance Landers. He finished 13th. … Seventeen of the 24 starters completed all 30 laps. … Hosting the 12th annual Gumbo Nationals, Greenville Speedway split the event into two separate events, with Friday’s 30-lap opener paying $4,000 to win and Saturday’s 70-lap finale paying $8,000 to win. … Ryan Colby was the fast qualifier for the Crate Late Model show on the undercard. Cruz Skinner, Justin McRee and Ashley Newman won heats for the $3,000-to-win event, with the feature to be contested Saturday.
