Matthew Nance won his first Blue Ridge feature.
What won the race: Overtaking Ricky Weeks amid lapped traffic, polesitter Matthew Nance of Ronda, N.C., grabbed the point and held on for his first Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models win Saturday at Antioch Speedway. Nance, who set the quick time and won the dash Friday, earned $1,500. Twelve-year-old Bryson Harper nipped Weeks at the line for second.
Quotable: “The racetrack really dried out and we tried to tighten up (the car) for the feature and actually got too tight,” winner Matthew Nance said. “We was too tight early in the race. We went with a little different tire than everybody else. We was on a harder tire shooting more for the end of the race, so we was struggling a little bit towards the first, but I had confidence as the race went on that those 12 (softer compound tires) were gonna give up and we’d start reeling ‘em in.”
Key notes: Early leader Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., cut down a tire after making contact with a lapped car, pitted, went to the rear of the field and rallied back to third. … Series leader David Minton finished fourth. ... Weeks has 14 series wins including six of the last eight. … The series returns to Antioch Nov. 23-24 to close the season.
Winner's sponsors: Nance's Longhorn Chassis is sponsored by Diversified Finshers, Shepherd's Home Improvements, Yadkin Valley Heat & Air and Crossroads Harley-Davidson, Durham's and Copper Barrel Distillery.
Points chase: Before Antioch, David Minton (636) led Ricky Weeks (606), Bryson Harper (487), Josh Harris (419) and Brian Carswell (383).
