What won the race: Polesitter Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., continued his late-season surge Saturday at Swainsboro Raceway with a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's Turkey 100. Overton collected $20,000 in one of the season's richest Crate Late Model events.
Quotable: "That's the longest 100 laps I've ever run," winner Brandon Overton said. "This race is pretty special to me. You know, this is where I cut my teeth, growing up and racing here, and this (race) always seems to get away from me."
Key notes: Overton's victory came one weekend after a pair of Super Late Model touring victories at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., and Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., worth $15,000. ... At Swainsboro, Overton led all the way and staved off challenges from runner-up Kyle Bronson and third-finishing Scott Bloomquist over the final 20 laps. ... Overton piloted the Crate Late Model owned and normally driven by his crewman Grant Pearl of Anniston, Ala. ... The first 81 laps ran caution-free. ... Sixteen drivers completed 100 laps. ... Time trials and heats were held Friday. ... Bloomquist unofficially tripped the clock quickest at 15.755 seconds Friday, but his time was disallowed because he wasn't using a fan blade on his engine as required by Swainsboro's rules; he rallied from the tail to finish fourth in his heat race and transfer to the headliner. ... Overton's younger brother, Cody, led all 20 laps of the feature for Crate Late Models using GM 602 powerplants.
On the move: Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tenn., started 15th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Overton drove a Grant Pearl-owned Longhorn No. 8 sponsored by C&S Transportation and Cobb Automotive.
Points chase: Joshua Bishop of Statesboro, Ga., is the 2018 track champion in Swainsboro's Crate division.
