Don Shaw heads for his 10th career SWDRA victory.
What won the race: Finishing 2.079 seconds ahead of Craig Parker, third-starting Don Shaw of Ham Lake, Minn., won Saturday’s Southwest Dirt Racing Association season-opener at Central Arizona Speedway. Jim Whisler finished third. Shaw earned $700.
Key notes: Shaw, who has a home in Arizona, earned his 10th career SWDRA victory, moving him into a tie for seventh on the tour’s all-time win list. … He last won on Nov. 24, 2018 at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. … It was his second series win at Central Arizona. … Seven of the 15 starters completed all 25 laps. … It was the first of four visits the series will make to Central Arizona this season. The tour returns on March 23. ... The 2019 points fund increased from an overall purse of $8,000 to $10,000 thanks to Shaw Trucking.
