What won the race: Overtaking David McCoy of Franklin, N.C., on lap 19, hometown driver Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., led the rest of the 30-lapper, holding off a late-race challenge from Dalton Cook to capture a $3,000 National Late Model Super Car Series victory in Southern Raceway's Cupid Dirt Classic.
Quotable: “It feels good to get the season started with a big win at our home track," Joseph Joiner said. "When the leaders got to lapped traffic they slowed down and left the high side wide open. I took advantage of it and rode it to the front. Once we got the lead I just made sure to hit my marks and keep them behind me.”
Key notes: David McCoy led the first 18 laps and settled for third. ... A dozen drivers completed 30 laps. ... Joiner won by a 0.780-second margin over Cook. ... The remainder of the NLMSCS 2019 schedule is expected to be released soon. ... Southern will host the Southern All Stars Series on March 15-16.
Winner's sponsors: Joiner’s Victory Circle race car has a 525 engine and is sponsored by Cole Services, Three Trade Consultants, Genesis Shocks and Hunt the Front.
