Casey Roberts gets rolling Saturday at Southern Raceway before his $7,000 victory.
What won the race: Making his second start in his new Wynn Motorsports ride, Casey Roberts of Toccoa, Ga., was flawless Saturday with a flag-to-flag victory over David Breazeale in the 60-lap finale of the Southern All Star-sanctioned Bash at the Beach at Southern Raceway. The 41-year-old crossed the finish line 1.15 seconds in front of Breazeale.
Quotable: "We're definitely not organized yet (with his new team), but we just wanted to come shake the car down," said winner Casey Roberts, who spun running third early in Friday's feature. "I know this place has been good to me, so I just wanted to come down here and try it."
Key notes: Starting outside the front row, Roberts led every lap for his first win of the 2019 season and his 13th career SAS triumph. His first of just two victories in '18 driving for Blount Motorsports didn't come until Sept. 7 in an SAS event at Georgia's Oglethorpe Speedway Park. ... Roberts's debut with Georgia-based Wynn Motorsports, in Friday's weekend opener at Southern, ended early when he clipped the track's inside berm while running third. ... Roberts won a pair of SAS features at Southern in 2017. ... The sixth-starting Breazeale, driving the Henderson Motorsports entry, reached second place on lap 28 and chased Roberts for the remainder of the distance. ... Friday winner Neil Baggett started on the pole and finished third. ... Six drivers completed 60 circuits. ... Reigning SAS champion Jay Scott of Fayetteville, Tenn., finished 11th. ... The series returns to Southern on Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
On the move: Ryan Crane of Panama City, Fla., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Roberts's Wynn Motorsports Longhorn entry carries a Jay Dickens engine and sponsorship from Wynn Land Development, M&S Concrete, Cushman Paint & Body, Baird Truck & Rental Sales, Anchorage Marine, Millwood Plumbing, Simpson Trucking and Penske Racing Shocks.
Points chase: After two events, Neil Baggett (194 points) of Columbus, Miss., leads Riley Hickman (184), Zach Leonhardi (176), J.R. Moseley (172) and Jay Scott (170).
