Kent Robinson takes the checkers for his $5,000 victory.
What won the race: After a lead swapping battle with polesitter Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., third-starting Kent Robinson of Bloomington, Ind., scored his first win of 2019 in Saturday’s Schaeffer’s MARS Racing Series-sanctioned program at Brownstown Speedway. He earned a $5,000 payday.
Quotable: "I was getting signals and I felt pretty good," Robinson said. "Real good at the beginning there and once (Gilpin) got back by me, I kind of rolled off into (turn) one right into that hole. I don't know if I blew something apart in the right-front shock. It never felt the same after that, so I was struggling. ... I knew (Gilpin) was close, but I don't know how close it was there."
Key notes: Robinson notched his third career MARS victory. His most recent came in the July 7 series stop at Brownstown. ... Gilpin and Robinson battled for the top spot for the majority of the 40-lapper until Robinson built up a 0.589 second margin in the closing laps. ... A dozen drivers completed 40 laps. ... The MARS tour made the first of three scheduled stops at Brownstown and returns July 6.
On the move: Dean Carpenter of Coldwater, Miss., started 11th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Robinson’s MB Customs car is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from J.B.’s Disposal Service, J.B.’s Salvage, Jones Oil Company, Keyser Manufacturing, Envy Suspension and VP Racing Fuels.
Points chase: Entering the event, Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., (396) held a six-point lead over David Seibers (390) in MARS standings.
