Bobby Pierce heads to a $5,000 victory in Peoria's Hamilton Memorial.
What won the race: Rallying around the high side to retake the lead from fourth-starting Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., polesitter Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., dominated the final laps to capture a $5,000 victory in Peoria Speedway’s Chuck Hamilton Memorial.
Quotable: "It was a good weekend ... but (Ryan) Unzicker and (Jason) Feger had me pretty worried," Pierce said. "I didn't know if I had to jump up top right away because going around there before we took the green it felt a little slimy up there. I seen them roll around me and I knew I had to do something quick before the bottom took rubber. Luckily I just got around them both before it really started locking down. Then I just kind of took off from there."
Key notes: Pierce scored his second victory of the weekend, earning a $2,000 payday on Friday at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill. ... The victory marked Pierce's sixth of the 2019 season. ... Among former race winners on hand for Saturday's memorial event were Brian Shirley, Ryan Unzicker and Dennis Erb Jr., who all finished among the top 10. ... Fifth-place finisher Mike Chasteen Jr. , who is in his rookie Late Model season, won the UMP modified feature.
On the move: Hometown driver Mike Chasteen Jr. started 14th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce's Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hoker Trucking, Allgayer Inc., Premier Waste Services, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Berger’s Marina, Digital Copy Systems, First Spear, Quality Paint & Body and Advanced Suspension.
