Ashton Winger streaks toward his first career MSCCS victory.
What won the race: Picking up his first career Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory, fourth-starting Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., outran home-state drivers Chad Thrash and Rick Rickman on Saturday for a $3,000 payday at Whynot Motorsports Park.
Quotable: “We got to the lead pretty early, and then this car was just a dream to drive," Winger said. "We got to see a lot of friends there as well, and I can’t thank Todd Pruitt and all of Billy Franklin’s crew enough for lending a helping hand on my car."
Key notes: Winger notched his first Super Late Model touring series victory. The son of noted GW Performance shock guru Gary Winger captured last year's Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series title for Crate Late Models. ... Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., made his first Dirt Late Model start since October 2016. But he didn't take the green flag in the feature because electrical problems in his Randy Thompson-owned car during the four-wide pace lap forced him off the track. ... Austin Arnold also scratched. ... With its first two April events postponed because of weather, the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series made its first of two scheduled stops at Whynot on the 2019 season. ... The series is slated to return to Whynot on June 8 for another $3,000-to-win program.
On the move: Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., started 11th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Winger’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by E-Z-Go, Keyser Mfg., Integra, Boydbilt Fabrication, Collins Signs, Turkey Creek Snacks, The Realty Queen & Team, Franklin Enterprises, Crown Security and Johnny Doan Plumbing.
Points chase: Before Whynot, Kyle Beard was atop the MSCCS points standings.
