Logan Roberson (17) turns back a challenge from Max Blair (111).
What won the race: Inheriting the lead with 10 laps to go when Ross Robinson retired with a broken driveshaft, Logan Roberson of Waynesboro, Va., went on to fight off Max Blair for a $3,000 victory in Saturday's 30-lap RUSH Dirt Late Model Series Battle of the Bay finale at Winchester Speedway. It marked the second straight year that Roberson was triumphant in the Crate Late Model miniseries stop at the third-mile oval.
Quotable: "I hate to see the bad break (for Robinson), but we'll take it any way possible," said Roberson, who declined to comment on runner-up Max Blair's outside bid for the lead on the last restart.
Key notes: Roberson took the checkered flag over by 2.051 seconds over Max Blair, whose bid to sweep the three completed Battle of the Bay miniseries events fell short. Blair won Wednesday at Delaware International Speedway and Thursday at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway. ... After Robinson, who won the dash and led the feature's first 19 laps, retired from action, Blair ran the outside to nose ahead of Roberson for the lead on lap 20. Roberson's inside groove propelled him back in front on lap 21, however, and he never looked back. ... It was Blair's third win in four Winchester starts this season. ... Blair earned a $1,000 bonus for winning the Battle of the Bay points crown; Roberson collected $500 for finishing second. ... Sam Pennacchio won the non-qualifiers' race. ... Friday's series stop at Potomac Speedway was rained out.
On the move: Canadian Charlie Sandercock improved eight positions to finish fourth; Michael Duritsky Jr. started 25th and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Roberson’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Race 1 Racing Engine and sponsored by RBS Auto Sales, Dirt Defender, Blue Ridge Treescape Service, Wynbridge, Wells Custom Jeep, Bobby’s Towing Service, Roy’s Body Shop, Russ King Racing and Virginia Motor Speedway.
Points chase: Blair leads the early RUSH tour standings.
