John Ownbey heads to victory Saturday at Talladega Short Track.
What won the race: Overall fast qualifier and second-starting John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., won Saturday's Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series feature at Talladega Short Track, outrunning Jake Knowles for a $2,500 victory.
Key notes: The race was slowed by four cautions, each one erasing comfortable leads by Ownbey. … The final 17 circuits were run caution free. … Second-running Jake Knowles and third-running Jake Rainey were involved in a lap-18 incident when Jimmy Thomas spun in turn two. Thomas was charged with the caution and series officials allowed both Knowles and Rainey to retake their positions. … It was the second of five Durrence Layne Chevrolet Series races at Talladega his season. … After four April rainouts, the tour opened its 2019 campaign at Talladega Short Track with a Friday-Saturday doubleheader. Knowles of Rome, Ga., won Friday's opener. ...
