Bobby Pierce takes the checkered flag at Stuart Speedway Thursday.
What won the race: Going from third to first following a restart on lap 11, 13th-starting Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., rolled around the high side to grab the lead on lap 16 and led the rest of the way to win Thursday’s Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association main event at Stuart Speedway. Chris Simpson finished second, while early leader Tyler Bruening finished third.
Quotable: "I was really glad that they stayed down in (turns) three and four just enough for me to get around,” said Pierce. “It was a pretty tricky track with the different corners. There are not a whole lot of places that get like that, but when they do I like it because I'm always trying to watch the race track and adjust to what it's doing."
Key notes: Bobby Pierce earned $3,000 for his second Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory of the season and fourth of his career. … The race was slowed by four cautions. … With his car exhibiting a plume of smoke, polesitter Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., gave up the lead to Tyler Bruening after pacing the first five laps. He was credited with 22nd. … Bruening’s third-place finish matched his series best. … Hall of Famer Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., ran among the top five until he slipped back to seventh following a caution with 10 laps remaining. He eventually finished sixth. … Stuart Speedway hosted the opener of what was scheduled to be a four-race MLRA weekend, but is now three events following Friday’s rainout at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway. … Stuart’s first-ever MLRA race is the tour’s only stop at the central Iowa bullring this season. … Through five series races, there have been four different winners. … Chase Junghans, Earl Pearson Jr. and Will Vaught have one each to join Pierce.
On the move: Race winner Bobby Pierce started 13th.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce's Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hoker Trucking, Allgayer Inc., Premier Waste Services, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Berger’s Marina, Digital Copy Systems, First Spear, Quality Paint & Body and Advanced Suspension.
