Bobby Pierce talks about his $3,000 victory at Quincy Raceway.
What won the race: Leading every lap, Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., completed a three-race sweep of MLRA’s Iowa-Illinois weekend Sunday with a $3,000 victory at Quincy Raceway. Pierce, who started outside the front row and kept runner-up Brian Shirley at bay late, added the 40-lap victory to Thursday’s $3,000 triumph at Stuart Speedway and Saturday’s $5,000 victory at West Liberty Raceway.
Quotable: "If I'd have had a mirror, I'd probably have been really nervous. I had my dad with the (signal) sticks down the backstretch," Pierce said. "The majority of the race, his sticks were really close, so that means they were right there on you. It was a fun race."
Key notes: Pierce owns seven career MLRA victories. ... Fourth-place finisher Kyle Bronson took a shot at Pierce in turn two just before halfway, but it cost him the second spot as Brian Shirley held that position the rest of the way. ... Joe Gorby spun in turn four for the race's lone yellow on lap 36. ... Will Vaught scratched after heat action with powerplant issues. ... MLRA made its debut at Quincy and its eighth appearance in Illinois in the tour's 31-year history. ... Friday's MLRA event at Davenport (Iowa) Speedway was rained out.
Winner's sponsors: Pierce's Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine with sponsorship from Hoker Trucking, Allgayer Inc., Premier Waste Services, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Carnaghi Towing, Berger’s Marina, Digital Copy Systems, First Spear, Quality Paint & Body and Advanced Suspension.
Points chase: Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., led series points entering the weekend.
