What won the race: Inheriting the lead after polesitter Ross Bailes suffered a flat-tire, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., cruised to his second win of the weekend in Friday’s Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals event at Crossville Speedway. He pocketed $4,000 for his fifth career Spring Nationals victory.
Quotable: “I felt like we had a really good car. I hate the 58 (Tanner English) and the 87 (Ross Bailes) had tire trouble. I’d really liked to have been able to race them,” said McIntosh. “They were really good to start with. I think we made the right changes. Our car was really good. Under that last caution I kept rocking the car around. I felt like I had a flat. They said I was fine. I was like, well, we’re in the lead, we’ll gas on it and see. The worse we’ll do id go to the back under caution. Thankfully that tire was still there and we didn’t have the misfortune that they did.”
Key notes: Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., set a new track record in time trials and jumped out to an early race lead in the feature when he suffered a flat right-rear tire on lap 14. … He rejoined the field from the tail and finished fifth. … Sixth-starting Dale McDowell ran into mechanical issues on the drop of the green flag and was unable to complete a lap. … Tanner English entered the hot pit on lap 14 to replace a flat. ... Brandon Overton discovered mechanical issues on the ensuing restart that ended his night. … The Ray Cook-promoted Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals visited Crossville Speedway for the third time in series history. … With McIntosh grabbing the first two wins of the weekend tripleheader, the series wraps up the weekend at Thunderhill Raceway on Saturday with the $10,000 prize.
On the move: Dakotah Knuckles of Ewing, Va., started seventh and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: McIntosh’s Blount Motorsports Rocket Chassis has a Vic Hill Racing Engine and is sponsored by Stowers CAT, Massey Electric, Blount Excavating, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Walker’s Truck Contractors, Food City and Wine & Spirits Cellar.
