Ryan VanderVeen collected his second career ALMS victory.
What won the race: Leading every lap, polesitter Ryan VanderVeen of Six Lakes, Mich., won Saturday at Thunderbird Raceway for a $2,000 Sunoco American Late Model Series victory. VanderVeen's second career ALMS victory was his first since 2012.
Quotable: "My dad and brother made a lot of changes to the shock and spring package for tonight and right out of the box it was pretty good," VanderVeen said of his new Pierce Race Car. "Couple that with a good draw and we were able to lead every lap of both heat and feature."
Key notes: VanderVeen won the previous night's regular-season feature at Winston Speedway in Rothbury, Mich. ... His previous ALMS victory came Aug. 3, 2012, at Mount Pleasant (Mich.) Speedway. ... The tour returned to Thunderbird for the first time since 2007. ... Friday's ALMS event at Kankakee County Speedway was rained out.
On the move: Dona Marcoullier of Houghton Lake, Mich., advanced nine spots to finish second.
Winner's sponsors: VanderVeen's Pierce Race Car is powered by a Cornett Lightning engine and sponsored by Miller & Associates, LeFever Builders, VanderVeen's Auto Parts and De Grins Oer Dairy.
Points chase: Casey Noonan led ALMS points heading to Thunderbird.
