Darrell Lanigan takes the checkered flag at Florence for a $5,000 victory.
What won the race: Polesitter and hometown driver Darrell Lanigan led all 50 laps Saturday night at Florence Speedway for a $5,000 Super Late Model victory. He held off a charging Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., following a lap-47 caution to secure the checkered flag.
Quotable: “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve been working our butt off on these new cars and we’ve got a good piece right now,” said Lanigan. “I screwed up on that restart and hit that bump down there and got a little sideways and it let (runner-up Zack Dohm) gain on me “He was good in that bottom. I figured if I could just stay up around that top, I’d be alright.”
Key notes: Lanigan registered his first win since returning to his self-owned No. 29 this season after spending the past three years driving for Clint Bowyer Racing. ... It was Lanigan's first victory at Florence since a Schaeffer's Spring Nationals score on April 19, 2014. ... Dohm began reeling Lanigan late in the race after the eventual winner ran nearly uncontested for the first 40 circuits. ... Tim McCreadie brought out the first caution of the race on the second lap after making contact with an infield tire with his Sweeteners Plus-backed Longhorn house car. He failed to make it back out due to apparent nose damage. ... Kyle Strickler suffered suspension issues on lap 47 that eliminated him from contention for a top-five finish in his Wells & Sons Motorsports car. He went on to win the Modified feature, however.
On the move: Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, started 18th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Lanigan’s Lanigan Autosports Club 29 Race Car is powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by GottaRace.com, Extreme Graphics and Mobil 1.
Points chase: Entering Saturday night's event, Trevor Landrum of Erlanger, Ky., led the Florence's weekly Super Late Model points chase.
