Michael Kloos snared his first career MLRA victory on Friday.
What won the race: Winning for the first time on the series, seventh-starting Michael Kloos of Trenton, Ill., raced to a $3,000 Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory Friday at Belle-Clair Speedway. He grabbed the lead on lap 26 and went on to defeat Chad Zobrist by 1.608 seconds in the 40-lap feature.
Quotable: "Hats off to my crew," Kloos said in victory lane. "It's been a rough year. We've tore some stuff up and they just keep digging. I wouldn't be here without them and Gerstner and Sons Motorsports for letting me drive their car."
Key notes: Kloos, who finished third in the May 17 Shamrock 40 at Belle-Clair, became the fifth different winner in eight MLRA events this season. ... Front-row starters Myles Moos and Mitch McGrath battled for the lead in the race's early stage; McGrath led laps 1-2 and 4-7 while Moos paced lap 3 and again from laps 8-25 before Kloos gained command for good. ... Moos's hopes effectively ended one circuit after he lost the lead to Kloos when he spun in turns one and two after contact with Zobrist. ... McGrath dropped to seventh place with 13 laps remaining but rallied to finish third. ... On the restart following Moos's spin, fifth-running Logan Martin spun in turns one and two, triggering a four-car tangle. ... A final caution flag flew with seven laps left. ... Fifth-place Greg Kimmons registered a career-best MLRA finish. ... The series made its first-ever visit to the fifth-mile Belleville, Ill., oval. ... The Lucas Oil MLRA tour's weekend doubleheader continues Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway.
On the move: Chad Zobrist of Highland, Ill., started ninth and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Kloos drives a Capital Race Car with a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from Jansen Chevrolet, Oak Street BBQ, Rural Family Medicine, Gerstner Plumbing, Carl’s 4-Wheel Drive and Performance Center, Hank's Bowl and Schaeffer’s Racing Oil.
