Mason Zeigler picked up an $8,300 paycheck at Bedford Speedway.
What won the race: Gaining a dose of redemption for a second consecutive week, Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., rolled to an $8,300 victory in Friday night's 50-lap Billy Winn Classic at Bedford Speedway. The 26-year-old driver beat Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., to the finish line by 2.769 seconds in the opener of the two-weekend, four-race Super Late Model Pennsylvania Track Challenge.
Quotable: "We've been coming here for years," Zeigler said. "It seems like every time we come here we get snake bit. We blow our motor up or blow a tire out. Last week we were really fast won our heat race and broke a J-bar. ... We drew the pole and I knew I just needed to conserve tires and run it as easy as I could. Them last 20 laps, I don't think I was even full throttle. I was really holding back but my crew guys were giving me signals I had a good lead. Anyone in this grandstand could have drove this thing tonight."
Key notes: In an event that was postponed by rain on its original May 3 date, Zeigler dominated after starting from the pole position. ... The victory came one week after Zeigler was forced out of Bedford's Johnny Grum/Turk Burkett Tribute event due to mechanical trouble — and five days after Zeigler scored his first win of 2019 at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway, where he grabbed the lead from Rick Eckert, who had beaten him twice earlier this season for wins in central Pennsylvania. ... Eckert finished fourth in Bedford's 50-lapper, inching forward from the eighth starting spot. ... The Super Late Model Pennsylvania Track Challenge continues Saturday at Port Royal.
On the move: Jared Miley of Pittsburgh, Pa., started 23rd and finished 12th.
Winner's sponsors: Zeigler’s Rocket Chassis has a Pro Power Racing Engine and sponsorship from Ohiopyle Vacation Rentals, Arizona Sport Shirts, JLE Industries, Stone House Restaurant, VP Racing Fuels, GottaRace.com and MS Shock Therapy.
Points chase: Jeff Rine of Danville, Pa., tops Bedford's weekly points standings.
