Bub McCool heads to victory at Greenville Speedway.
What won the race: Coming from his sixth starting spot at Greenville Speedway and outdueling the Rickman brothers, Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., won his fourth race in his last five starts — all the victories coming at Greenville — for a $2,500 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory. McCool, who had lapped all but three competitors when he was tagged with a lap-29 caution, raced back to the front and took the checkers four seconds ahead of polesitter Brian Rickman, who led laps 29-40. McCool led laps 14-28 and 41-50 while Rick Rickman, who led the first 13 laps, was eliminated in the lap-29 scramble.
Quotable: "We closed quickly back to the leaders after the caution was called on us," said McCool, who restarted fourth, the tail end of the lead-lap cars. "I was just driving it hard too, you know. They had me running a little fever there, so it made us that more determined to get back up front."
Key notes: McCool won the previous MSCCS stop at Greenville and swept July 4-5 Comp Cams Super Dirt Series events on the track's gumbo clay. ... McCool made contact with Leon Henderson's lapped car to trigger the lap-29 caution that ended Rick Rickman's race. ... A seven-car jam after one completed lap eliminated Robert Baker and Chase Washington. ... Drivers missing the feature lineup: Michael Aycock, Randy Barnard and Christopher Showah.
On the move: Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., came from his 12th starting spot to finish fifth; Brett White of Kosciusko, Miss., came from 20th to eighth.
Winner's sponsors: McCool's Victory Circle Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by McCool Logging, Good Hope, Triple B Trucking, AR Bodies, C&R Racing, ASi Racewear, Schaeffer's Racing Oil, MavTV, Outerwears and Hoosier Racing Tires.
Points chase: After Greenville, David Breazeale leads with 940 points to lead Brian Rickman (895) and Rick Rickman (895).
