Will Vaught steers to victory Friday at Beaver Dam.
What won the race: Will Vaught of Crane, Mo., led all 40 laps of the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association event at Beaver Dam Raceway to earn $4,000. Vaught crossed the finish line 1.591 seconds ahead of runner-up Mitch McGrath.
Quotable: “(Crew chief) Eric (Barnes) was giving me signals and keeping me calm, and when it got close I had to push it,” Vaught said. “I was sometimes being too patient with the lapped cars, and some of the lapped cars didn't give us any room. They were racing hard for position and I understand that. I was there one day.”
Key notes: The victory was Vaught's second MLRA win of the season and 15th of his career. ... The race was slowed by just one caution flag on lap 35. ... Beaver Dam hosted the tour's first-ever Wisconsin event.
On the move: Justin Reed of Quincy, Ill., started 16th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Vaught's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Johnson's Service Station, Mad Mal Trucking and GW Performance.
Points chase: Entering the event, Will Vaught (756 points) led Mitch McGrath (711), Logan Martin (711), Jake Neal (629) and Joe Gorby (572).
