Zack Dohm and team in Ponderosa Speedway victory lane.
What won the race: Edging third-starting Jared Hawkins of Fairmont, W.Va., at the checkered flag when lapped traffic slowed his pace on the final lap, fifth-starting Zack Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., scored a $4,088 victory in Ponderosa Speedway's Big Daddy Classic. Dohm finished 0.481 seconds ahead of Hawkins at the line.
Quotable: "I can't believe it worked out like that," Dohm said. "I feel terrible for Jared (Hawkins). I guarantee he's up there just kicking himself, probably thinks he did something wrong. Really all he did wrong was catch them too quick. If he'd have never caught them dudes, I wouldn't have won."
Key notes: Dohm notched his second Ponderosa victory of the season, winning the May 17 Junebug Rowland Memorial. … Outside polesitter Victor Lee led the first nine circuits before falling to Jared Hawkins on lap 10 of 40. … The race was slowed by three cautions. … The first yellow flag waved on lap three when fifth-running Tanner English spun in turn four, collecting Steve Stollings; English retired to the pits. … Connor Meade slowed off the pace to draw a lap-28 caution. … A yellow flag flew on lap 29 when Justin Rattliff slowed with a flat tire. … The event honored the late Kentucky racer Paul "Big Daddy" Feistritzer. … Pulling double duty in both Late Model divisions, Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, Ky., was the winner of the Crate feature.
On the move: Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., started eighth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Dohm’s No. 17 is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by Dohm Cycles, Octane Race Products and Melvin’s Automatic Transmission.
