What won the race: Switching to his teammate Raymond Merrill's car after early engine problems in his own machine, polesitter Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., led from flag-to-flag to defeat third-starting Jesse Stovall in Saturday's Comp Cams Super Dirt Series Rockabilly 45 at I-30 Speedway. He claimed $5,000 for his eighth career CCSDS victory.
Quotable: “We put a new engine in this week and something wasn’t right in hot laps," Jackson said. "We didn’t want to risk doing any further damage,so we parked it, and thankfully my teammate and sponsor Raymond Merrill let me drive his car. We had a couple of cautions early in the feature, but after that we went green the rest of the way. It was tough being the leader because I didn’t know how big my lead was, so I didn’t know how hard I needed to push it in lapped traffic."
Key notes: Jackson registered his second Comp Cams triumph of 2019 and claimed the Rockabilly 45 for the second time in his career. ... Stovall moved into second early in the race and chased Jackson for the remainder of the distance. ... Timothy Culp ran in a podium position for the first half of the A-main being slipping to fifth at the finish. ... Two caution flags slowed the feature. ... After six straight rainouts, the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series traveled to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway for the ninth annual Rockabilly 45. It was the first of two visits to the track this season for the series. … The race was originally set for June 8, but pushed back a week due to rain.
On the move: Payton Looney of Republic, Mo., advanced from the 19th starting spot to finish ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Jackson drove a Black Diamond Chassis powered by a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsored by Willard Quarries, Hassett Truck Body Repair, Carget Motors, Merrill Self Storage, Merrill Bonding, Champion Oil, Wick’s Truck Trailers, Levi Storage, Becky Burk Realtor and Burger Fusion.
