Freddie Carpenter takes the checkers for his first Atomic victory.
What won the race: Leading every lap, polesitter Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., held off a late-charging Steve Casebolt on The Night The Stars Come Out at Atomic Speedway. Carpenter, who survived R.J. Conley's late turn-four slide job that briefly dropped Carpenter to second, collected $5,000 Friday for his first career Atomic victory.
Key notes: Carpenter stretched a personal winning streak to four in a row; he won three weekly races at three tracks the previous weekend. ... Second-starting R.J. Conley ran second the first 27 laps and nearly overtook Carpenter late but retired with two laps remaining after hitting the wall. ... Eight drivers completed 30 laps. ... Officials postponed Ollie's All Star Circuit of Champions sprint action after Brinton Marvel's car cleared the fence in turn three and struck the side of a set of bleachers; at least one fan was apparently struck by the car and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The fence damage parked the division the rest of the night. ... The event marked the debut of the track’s partially completed wall from turn one around the backstretch; the completion of the wall, which stops mid-backstretch, will be completed into turn three later. ... Jason Montgomery won the 20-lap modified feature.
Winner's sponsors: Carpenter’s Kryptonite Race Car is sponsored by Octane Race Products.
