Randy Weaver (116) and Billy Ogle Jr. (201) battle in Rome.
What won the race: Third-starting Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., inherited the lead from Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., with nine laps remaining in the 53-lap event when Madden suffered a right-rear flat. Weaver collected a $5,300 payday for his second Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series triumph of the season and extend his personal five-race winning streak.
Quotable: "This is like a dream month for me. ... " Weaver said in victory lane. "I felt like I was as good as Madden, but once he got out front with that traffic, it was going to be hard to do anything with him. I seen him get against some of those lapped cars, and I thought, 'It might be a little bit early to be doing that.' But I've lost 'em that way."
Key notes: Weaver is the tour's first repeat winner in six events; he also picked up a win in Tuesday's stop at 411 Motor Speedway. ... The winner sensed some ignition or other problems in the final laps, but was able to stay out front. ... The race makes Weaver's fifth consecutive win, including a victory in Saturday's Southern All Star Series event at Talladega Short Track in his GRT Race Car; the other four victories have come in his Longhorn Chassis. ... The race was slowed by two cautions on laps seven and 44. ... The Schaeffer Oil-backed tour made an appearance at Rome for the fifth straight season. ... The tour takes Monday off following a tripleheader weekend.
On the move: Michael Page of Douglasville, Ga., rallied from the 15th starting position to finish fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Weaver's Longhorn Chassis has a Cornett Racing Engine and sponsorship from A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services, Hoosier Racing Tire, Outlaw Race Parts, SlickerGraphics.com, Stone Land Clearing & Excavating, The Bailey Company and VP Racing Fuels.
Points chase: Exiting Rome, Chris Madden holds a 12-point advantage over Eric Jacobsen in the series standings.
