Dustin Strand notched his first NLRA victory of 2019.
What won the race: Leading all the way, three-time NLRA champion and hometown driver Dustin Strand captured Sunday's 25-lapper at River Cities Speedway, earning $1,200. The outside front-row starter took the checkers two seconds ahead of NLRA points leader Shane Edginton.
Quotable: “I knew I had some good cars behind me, so I didn’t want to see all of those yellows, but luckily everything worked out,” Strand said after the caution-plagued feature. “The track was kind of tricky with different characteristics in different places, but the car was awesome. All in all it was a great night. Hopefully, we’ve got all of the gremlins off of our back from the beginning of the year and luck will stay on our side.”
Key notes: Strand has 19 career NLRA victories. ... It's his first on the tour since Aug. 16, 2018, at Red River Co-op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba. ... Mike Balcaen started on the pole and finished fifth. ... Eleven drivers completed 25 laps. ... The series has three more stops scheduled at River Cities, the next on July 26.
On the move: Brody Troftgruben of Grand Forks, N.D., started 12th and finished seventh.
Winner's sponsors: Strand's Millenium MRT Chassis is powered by a Ben Adams Racing Engine and sponsored by RH Rebel Storage, Q&Z Plumbing & Heating, Keewatin Truck Service, Red Headed Rebel Brew, McCaughan Builders, Bemidji Welders Supply, Troy Pecka Trucking, Newgard Insurance, Generations Salon & Spa, Forest Flying Service and Altru’s Sports Advantage.
Points chase: Entering the weekend, Shane Edington of Winnipeg, Manitoba, led NLRA standings with 430 points over Dustin Strand (386) and Brad Seng (384).
