Dillon Brown picked up a $2,000 paycheck in Gastonia, N.C.
What won the race: Dillon Brown of Gaffney, S.C., broke through for his first career win on the Fast Unified Engine Late Model tour, rolling to a flag-to-flag victory in Friday night's 30-lap feature at Carolina Speedway. He beat Kenny Collins to the finish line by 0.897 of a second for a $2,000 payday.
Quotable: “My brother and Mikey, they have killed themselves the last three weeks,” Brown said. “They built this car from the ground up. We got 30 laps with a limited motor and that’s it. This is our first race (with the Limited Late Model FUEL series).”
Key notes: Brown became the sixth different winner in as many FUEL events contested at Carolina Speedway. ... The triumph was not only Brown's first-ever on the FUEL tour but also his first career checkered flag at the Carolina oval. ... Collins moved into second place on lap six and stayed there for the remainder of the distance. ... Robbie Emory slipped into third on lap seven and never relinquished the spot. ... The FUEL Series visited Carolina for the second and final time this season. ... Points leader Steve Banal won the tour's season-opener in Gastonia on March 22.
Winner's sponsors: Brown's Longhorn Chassis sports sponsorship from Cherokee Landscaping, B&B Grading & Trucking, Performance Automotive and Moorhead Brothers Inc.
Points chase: Steve Banal (388 points) of Rock Hill, S.C., entered the event leading Robbie Emory (362), Shaun Harrell (360), Derek Rogers (348) and Willie Millikan (334).
