Ashton Winger's team enjoys a visit to Crossville's victory lane.
What won the race: Continuing his breakout 2019 season, Ashton Winger of Hampton, Ga., registered his first-ever Schaeffer's Iron-Man Championship Series victory in Friday's 30-lapper at Crossville Speedway. The 19-year-old son of GW Performance shock guru Gary Winger earned $3,000 by stealing spots from Donald McIntosh and Michael Chilton on consecutive restarts to go from third to first.
Quotable: "We'll try to get this thing beat out, because most of the time whenever I'm racing, there's body panels beaten off of it," Winger cracked in victory lane. "I ain't got too good a look at it yet, but I'm sure something's beat up."
Key notes: Winger took the lead from Michael Chilton on a lap-16 restart. ... Cory Hedgecock dropped Chilton to third a lap later. ... Winger became the Iron-Man tour's fifth winner in as many 2019 races. ... David Gentry finished eighth in Jason Welshan's No. 29. ... Eight drivers completed 40 laps. ... Crossville hosted its lone series event to kick off a Tennessee doubleheader weekend; Saturday's action is at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville.
On the move: Joey Standridge of Tellico Plains, Tenn., advanced five positions to finish 10th.
Winner's sponsors: Winger’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by E-Z-Go, Keyser Mfg., Integra, Boydbilt Fabrication, Collins Signs, Turkey Creek Snacks, The Realty Queen & Team, Franklin Enterprises, Crown Security and Johnny Doan Plumbing.
Points chase: Robby Moses (732) entered the event leading Joseph Faulkner (714), Joey Standridge (674) and Casey Turman (648).
