What won the race: After apparent winner R.C. Whitwell was disqualified because his car weighed in light after the race, Dusty Leonard of Marysville, Kan., inherited the victory in Friday night's America Proud Celebration feature at Longdale Speedway. Leonard earned $1,000 for his fourth National Championship Racing Association win of the season and the fifth of his career.
Key notes: Leonard scored his second straight NCRA win, backing up his victory in Thursday's event at Belleville (Kan.) High Banks. ... Whitwell, who has concentrated on modified racing since January's Wild West Shootout, lost what would have been his first Dirt Late Model triumph of the season for Hoskins Racing. He said burning more fuel than he expected caused him to fall short of the minimum weight requirement. ... NCRA traveled to Longdale Speedway for the fifth annual America Proud Fourth of July Celebration, which features a pair of $1,000-to-win events beginning Friday and wrapping up Saturday. Two separate programs are on tap. … It was the third night of the NCRA’s four-race Independence Day trek and was co-sanctioned by the Sooner Late Model Series. … The program was NCRA’s only visit to the 3/8-mile oval this season and the lone race for Late Models at Longdale in 2019.
On the move: Dan Smith of Beloit, Kan., started 11th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Leonard's Rocket Chassis is sponsored by Feldkamp Furniture, United Bank and Truck and R&G Tools.
Points chase: NCRA: Chris Kratzer (1,650) of Wichita, Kan., leads Travis Johnson (1,635), Delbert Smith (1,630), Daniel Smith (1,590) and Adam Schrag (1,580).
Sooner: Kip Hughes (2,415 points) of Enid, Okla., leads Damian Patocka (2,110), Steve Hawkins (1,970), John Somers (1,725) and Wayne Bush (1,440).
