The 36-year-old Marlar never looked back over the final 23 laps en route to a $3,500 payday and his first Schaeffer Oil Southern Nationals Series win of 2014.
Quotable: "Everybody was racing really hard, and I just kind of caught them guys guarding each other and got around on the outside," Marlar said. "A heckuva race. Man, they've turned this racetrack into an awesome racetrack. If you're good, you can start wherever and win the race."
Key notes: Dacus jumped out front at the drop of the green and led the first 11 laps. ... English followed Marlar past Dacus on the 12th lap and held second at the finish. ... The 35-lapper lapper was slowed by a few cautions over the first half of the race, but ran caution-free down the stretch. ... Bub McCool was eliminated when Eric Jacobsen squeezed him on the frontstretch. ... Another caution came when Josh Putnam got hung up in turn four, collecting Austin Smith and triggering scramble. ... Sixteen drivers completed all 35 laps. ... Marlar previously scored a last-lap victory on May 25 at Duck River, when he overtook the runner-up's father, Terry English, on the last circuit in a Ray Cook-officiated event. ... Marlar, who gave his winner's trophy to a young fan, has three career Southern Nationals victories; both of his previous triumphs came in 2012. ... Duck River hosted the eighth of 10 races on the Ray Cook-promoted miniseries.
On the move: Series points leader Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., scratched from his consolation race and was forced to take a provisional starting spot, but he salvaged the night with a charge forward from 21st to finish seventh.
