What won the race: Shaking off contact with fellow front-row starter Ben Watkins on the opening lap, Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., drove to victory Saturday in the Ultimate Southeast Series All American 40 at Lancaster Speedway. Bailes finished 3.245 seconds ahead of runner-up Zack Mitchell.
Key notes: Ross Bailes is the first repeat winner in 10 Ultimate Southeast Series events this season. … It was his sixth career Ultimate SE Series win, tying him with Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., for fifth on the tour’s all-time win list. … Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., finished second after winning the tour stop at Lancaster last year. … Ben Watkins got into the outside wall on the initial start attempt when he and Bailes made contact. He was credited with 16th. … Nine cars were running at finish with six completing all 50 circuits. … Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., who snapped a nearly five-year series winless streak with his June 29 win at Lake View Speedway, improved three spots to finish fourth. … The Ultimate Southeast Series made its first of two stops at Lancaster this season. … The series returns to Lancaster on Aug. 31.
