Scott Rhoades heads to a High Plains victory at I-76 Speedway.
What won the race: Taking advantage of his prime starting spot, polesitter Scott Rhoades of Wheat Ridge, Colo., turned back a late-race charge from Scott Lewis then held on for a three-lap dash to the finish to win Saturday’s High Plains Late Model Series feature at I-76 Speedway. Albert Sack grabbed the runner-up spot.
Key notes: Rhoades is the tour’s third different winner in three events this season. … It was his third career High Plains series victory, moving him into a tie for second on the third-year tour’s all-time win list. … With three laps remaining, Scott Lewis spun as he battled Rhoades for the lead. After tagging the tail of the field, he finished seventh. … Mike Jensen was scheduled to start on the front row of his heat, but scratched due to engine problems during hot laps. … The race was slow by multiple cautions early. … The series returns to I-76 on Sept. 7 and Oct. 1.
On the move: Justin Bussell of Imperial, Neb., started 16th and finished third.
