Freddie Carpenter takes the checkered flag Friday at I-77.
What won the race: Rallying from 13th, Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W. VA., topped Logan Roberson and Nick Schlager to win Friday night’s Fastrak Racing Series-sanctioned UBB 29 Miner’s Memorial at I-77 Speedway. He pocketed $3,000.
Key notes: The win comes a week after Carpenter tied the knot, marrying fiance Jima Galbreath in an outdoor ceremony in Parkersburg, W.Va. ... The ninth annual UBB 29 Miner’s Memorial shifted from Princeton (W.Va.) Speedway to I-77 Speedway for the first time. … It was the first race of the tour’s West Virginia weekend doubleheader. … The race honored the 29 miners who passed away in the Upper Big Branch Mine disaster in Raleigh County, W.Va., on April 5, 2010. … Two-time event winner Benji Hicks of Mount Airy, N.C., finished fourth. … Carson Ferguson of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael Brown of Pageland, S.C., have won three Fastrak Series events each this season. … Carpenter visited victory lane in the Super Late Models ranks on Friday as well.
