What won the race: Moving past early pacesetter Victor Lee on lap 24, Michael Chilton of Salvisa, Ky., dominated the remainder of the 40-lap distance for a $5,000 payday Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway. Chilton stretched his lead to more than six seconds over the race's closing stages.
Quotable: “The racetrack was a little racier than I thought it would be,” said Chilton. “I get through that turn down there in three and four pretty good when I can diamond that thing off and drive across that bottom there. I usually can make some speed here doing that. And down here in (turns) one and two it was just kinda … it was fast around the top … just don’t do nothing silly and get in the wall there. I got close a time or two.”
Key notes: Chilton previously earned $4,031 for a victory in Lake Cumberland's Johnny Wheeler Memorial on May 25. ... Lee held the early lead for laps 1-23. ... A dozen drivers were running at the finish. ... Daniel Dial scratched from the feature. ... The race was part of Lake Cumberland's All-Star specials in 2019. ... A week before the event, promoter Brandon Hardgrove boosted the winner's purse to $5,000 up from $3,000. ... He also boosted the purse of the previous night's companion race at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky., won by Kyle Strickler.
Winner's sponsors: Chilton's Rocket Chassis with a Pro Power Racing Engine is sponsored by Parkview Home Center, Caton Industrial Painting, Chilton's Lawn & Maintenance, PPM Racing Products, Brucebuilt Performance and Kamikazi Web Works.
Points chase: Entering the event, Rod Carter Jr. of Woodbine, Ky., had 730 points to lead Lake Cumberland's standings over Tim Taylor (575) and Camaron Marlar (565).
