What won the race: Rebounding from engine woes in hot laps, Kip Hughes of Enid, Okla., rallied to win Saturday’s Sooner Late Model Series feature at Dodge City. Hughes took the lead from Adam Schrag on lap 11 and led the rest of the way to win ahead of Adam Popp and Steven Hawkins.
Quotable: “We hurt a brand new motor in hot laps. Fortunately we had some spares with us and were able to get it changed out pretty quick,” said Hughes.
Key notes: Hughes won his fourth Sooner Late Model Series race of the season, but first since May 17. … He’s the sixth different winner in the last six series races. … Hughes has a series-high 10 Sooner tour victories. … Adam Schrag of Hutchinson, Kan., finished eighth after leading the first 10 laps. He slowed to bring out the race’s only caution on lap 15 and retired from the event. … The series made its first-ever visit to the Kansas oval.
