TOCCOA, Ga. (July 18) — Live blog-style updates from Thursday's fourth round of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series at Toccoa Raceway, which hosts a $3,500-to-win event (results unofficial):
Rained out
Thursday’s Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals race at Toccoa Raceway was rained out. A storm swept over the northern Georgia oval around 6 p.m. With more rain expected later in the evening, series officials cancelled the $3,500-to-win program. No makeup date was announced. The series moves to Senoia (Ga.) Raceway Friday.
Pre-race setup
Slipping out of East Tennessee, the fourth round of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals hits Toccoa Raceway, a 3/8-mile oval hosting its second-ever event on the Ray Cook-promoted series. Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga., topped hometown standout Casey Roberts to win last year’s tour stop.
Overton, who won at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn., on Tuesday for his second victory in three starts this season and 12th career series triumph, leads the series to Toccoa. Overton also won the opener at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., on Saturday, while Trent Ivey of Union, S.C., won Sunday at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C. Five drivers have perfect attendance after three events.
Thursday’s Super Late Model program includes hot laps, time trials, preliminary races and a 35-lap, $3,500-to-win main event.
