Dustin Linville gives the thumbs up in victory lane at 201.
What won the race: Winning his second special event of the weekend, polesitter Dustin Linville of Bryantsville, Ky., turned back a late challenge from fellow front-row starter Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, W.Va., for a $5,000 victory in 201 Speedway's Coal Show 50. Dohm edged ahead at the white flag, but Linville, who led 49 laps, regained the lead exiting turn two on the last circuit.
Quotable: “Starting on the front row, the only thing you could do was go backwards, so it’s intense anyway," Linville said. "But man, that was an awesome race. I thought I gave it away on the last lap.”
Key notes: Linville added the victory to his $3,000 payday Friday night at Ponderosa Speedway's Junebug Rowland Memorial. ... He has four victories overall in 2014, all in Kentucky. ... At 201, a lap-four caution fell for Oscar McCown, who slowed to head for the pits. ... Steve Lucas and Daniel Williams tangled on the lap-four restart. ... Williams hit the turn-four wall for a lap-28 caution; seventh-running Victor Lee took his smoking car pitside during the slowdown. ... Polesitters won every heat. ... Linville pocketed $100 for fast time. ... The race originally scheduled for Saturday was pushed to Sunday afternoon because of rain. ... The track returned to action after taking nearly a month off to rework the racing surface as the eastern Kentucky oval tried to get a grip on a dust problem.
On the move: Chris Combs of Isom, Ky., started seventh and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Linville's Swartz Race Car has a Bullock Race Engine and carries sponsorship from Johnny Maco Electric, Mulligan Plumbing, Graphic Impressions, 4B Motorsports, Pinetop Motors, Paul Benton Auto Body, Travis Short Racing, Crane Time, Turbo Start, Cookie Monster Power Plants, Linville’s Finish Carpentry, Linville Construction, Bruce and Vicki Barnes and Schaeffer Oil.
Points chase: Entering the event, Shannon Thornsberry of Martin, Ky., led the track's weekly points (445) over Michael Wright (420).
