Jeff Aikey won his 70th career Deery Brothers feature.
What won the race: Emerging on top after a lengthy battle with polesitter Andy Eckrich, fourth-starting Jeff Aikey of Cedar Falls, Iowa, led the last four laps for a victory in Friday’s Deery Brother Summer Series main event at Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Eckrich settled for second, with fellow front-row starter John Emerson third. Aikey earned $2,000 for his second series win of the season.
Quotable: "Andy was tremendously good tonight ... I had to get up on the wheel," Aikey said. "I'll tell you, what a racetrack. High, low, wherever you had to go where there wasn't lapped cars. I think that was a helluva show for the fans."
Key notes: Aikey recorded his series-leading 70th career IMCA Deery Brother Summer Series victory. … His previous Lee County victory came in April 1996. ... The series’ Aug. 10 event at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway was cancelled.
