What won the race: Taking advantage when early leaders Steve Casebolt and R.J. Conley got together while battling for the top spot, third-running Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., inherited the lead and went on to capture Friday’s Ultimate Mid-Ohio Valley Series race at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex. Carpenter outran fourth-starting Jackie Boggs and earned $3,000 for winning the fifth annual Late Model Barnburner, part of the tour’s Buckeye Late Model Dirt Week.
Quotable: “I feel like I should have won the last three (races) in a row … wrong tire call last Saturday night at Wayne County, but you know what? I wasn’t gonna let it get me tonight,” said Carpenter. “I said I’ll just try to maintain these babies and let ‘er eat. I’d rather just drove right around them guys (Casebolt and Conley) and raced my guts out and took the lead the right way, but you know, a rule’s a rule. Best believe it’s bit me before.”
