Gregg Satterlee powers around the quarter-mile Path Valley oval en route to his first-ever Ultimate Northeast victory.
What won the race: Taking advantage of his outside pole starting position, Gregg Satterlee of Indiana, Pa., marched to a flag-to-flag victory worth $3,000 in Friday night's 40-lap Ultimate Northeast Super Late Model Series feature at Path Valley Speedway. He beat Jason Covert to the finish line by 1.733 seconds in the tour's first-ever stop at the quarter-mile oval.
Quotable: “(The track) was a little different tonight. We’ve only ever raced here once and it was a little wider and with a cushion and we raced way harder,” said Satterlee. “Tonight, everyone kept getting down in the infield and it was really kinda right around the bottom. Which they did put tires out and it was really good for awhile. It was clean and I was moving around, but there at the end it kinda got one-laned and I was just trying to be patient … trying not to overrun the corners and do something stupid and give the win away.”
Key notes: The triumph was Satterlee's career-first in Ultimate Northeast action and his second overall win of 2019. His only previous '19 checkered flag came on May 24 at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway. ... Satterlee outgunned the polesitting Covert at the initial green flag in the feature and stayed smooth on the bottom of the track to turn back high-side pressure in lapped traffic late in the distance from the York Haven, Pa., driver, who was denied victory at the track where he raced often early in his career. ... Delaware's Austin Hubbard ran second during the race's first half but ceded the spot to Covert on a lap-17 restart and settled for a third-place finish. ... A rash of caution flags slowed the race's first half before the action settled down. ... Satterlee was the fifth different winner in as many Ultimate Northeast A-mains this season.
On the move: Justin Weaver of Williamsport, Md., advanced eight positions to finish sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Satterlee’s Rocket Chassis is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Satterlee Petroleum Distributors, Keyser Manufacturing, Classic Ink and Valvoline.
Points chase: Entering the event, Jared Miley (128 points) of Pittsburgh, Pa., led Shaun Jones (73), Matt Cosner (65), Kirk Baker (62) and Coleby Frye (61).
