What won the race: After catching race-long leader A.J. Brochu with five laps remaining, hometown driver Kip Hughes pulled ahead with just one to go, then held off Brochu to win Saturday’s Sooner Late Model Series feature at Enid Speedway. The two battled for three laps before the fifth-starting Hughes finally secured the lead and the $750 victory.
Key notes: Kip Hughes won his seventh Sooner Late Model Series race of the season, third in a row and 14th of his career. He has six career tour wins at his home track. … Brochu grabbed the lead from the pole, leaving Hughes to battle for third. … Hughes got around Cliff Morrow for third on a lap-four restart. … Hughes worked the outside to catch Ross McCartney, finally pulling alongside on lap 12 before taking the spot on lap 14.
