Chad Thrash celebrates in victory lane at his hometown track.
What won the race: Winning on the series for the first time at his home track, outside front-row starter Chad Thrash of Collinsville, Miss., outdueled polesitter Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., for a $2,500 Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series victory. Thrash regained the lead from McCool on lap 42 and led the rest of the way.
Quotable: "I gave it away in lapped traffic there, but I worked my butt off to get it back for these guys," Thrash said. "I didn't want to take that big of a chance early. I took it there at the end and wound up getting Bub (McCool) back. Bub's been so good lately, I'm just glad to beat him. That makes me feel like we can go anywhere and line up and race."
Key notes: Thrash previously won on the series on July 12 at Columbus (Miss.) Speedway. ... He has seven career MSCCS victories. ... Because he dropped a valve in his No. 38, Chase Washington of Houlka, Miss., took the green flag in the feature in Henry Pullen's No. 311 Crate Late Model. Washington was the race's first retiree. ... The series is also scheduled to revisit Whynot on Sept. 20.
On the move: Mark Dodson started 12th and finished eighth.
Winner's sponsors: Thrash's Rocket Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Thrash Pest Control, Structural Steel, TomKat of Chunky, Miss., Hoosier Racing Tire, Five Star Bodies, Miller Lite and X-Treme Graphics by J-Rod.
Points chase: David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., leaves Whynot with 1,065 points to lead Brian Rickman (1,030) and Rick Rickman (1,015).
