Dennis Franklin won at Fayetteville Saturday, his first Carolina Clash triumph of the season.
What won the race: Edging Chris Blackwell by 0.170 of a second, second-starting Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., won Saturday night's 40-lap Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series feature at Fayetteville Motor Speedway. The veteran known as Rambo pocketed a $4,000 paycheck for his first Clash triumph of 2019.
Key notes: Franklin led the entire distance but had to survive a last-ditch bid from Blackwell to earn his ninth career Carolina Clash victory at Fayetteville and his 44th career win on the tour. Both are series-bests. … Franklin claimed his first Clash checkered flag since Aug. 14, 2018, at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C. ... Blackwell grabbed second place on lap four and ran in the position for the remainder of the distance. ... Polesitter Johnny Pursley was outgunned by front-row mate Franklin for the lead at the initial green flag and lost second to Blackwell on lap four, but he stayed in third place to the finish. ... Fifteen of the 17 starters completed all 40 laps. ... Kyle Hardy of Stephens City, Va., piloted the Billy Hicks-owned No. 79. He finished sixth. … Winchester, Tenn., native Ryan Gifford, now a North Carolina transplant, made a rare Late Model start, finishing eighth. … Brett Hamm of Newberry, S.C., who won Fayetteville’s $10,000-to-win Clash race on March 30, finished fourth. … The Carolina Clash Series visited Fayetteville for the second of three scheduled races this season and 70th time in series history.
