Matt Ryan picked up his third career Deery Brothers victory.
What won the race: Becoming the fifth leader on a restart with two laps remaining, 12th-starting Matt Ryan of Davenport, Iowa, swept around upstart Brandt Cole on the 29th lap Sunday at Quad City Speedway. Ryan won by 0.439 seconds for a $2,000 Deery Brothers Summer Series victory on a rough and tumble surface with just nine cars running at the finish.
Key notes: Ryan notched his third career series victory and first since 2016. ... Runner-up Brandt Cole of Rock Falls, Ill., who led laps 24-28, was making his first career series start. ... Two-time series champ Curt Martin led laps 20-23 before a flat tire dropped him from contention and he slowed for a lap-29 yellow. ... Brian Harris led laps 9-19 but lost the lead to Curt Martin just before getting a flat left-rear tire. ... Justin Kay retired on the 10th lap after leading the first eight circuits. ... Andy Nezworski's second-running car abruptly slowed exiting turn two on the eighth lap collecting Tommy Elston, Terry Neal and Joe Zrostlik. ... The sixth-starting Elston had run as high as second. ... Other cautions included a pileup in turn four on a lap-20 restart after Curt Martin got out of shape on the restart (Jeremiah Hurst slammed his helmet into the side of Martin's car in expressing his displeasure during the ensuing caution). ... With heavy track conditions, the feature was cut to 30 laps instead of 40.
